Dr. Shabana is focused on advisory services in the areas of IT enablement, Business transformation, Risk Management and operational excellence. He has led numerous large global strategic projects in these areas. His primary industry experience is in the Government sector but he has also assisted Universities and Telecommunications providers.
Dr.Shabana is an Ernst and Young Partner serving large GCC government clients in developing their IT strategy, their eGovernment implementations and their e-services portfolio. He has successfully completed several of these projects. His team has received several excellence awards from the clients.
He has over 25 years of experience in the field. He started his career with IBM where he focused on the technical deployment of airline reservation systems. While pursuing his Doctoral Degree in Information Systems at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) he worked as a senior computer consultant at UCLA’s computer center where he led the computer emergency response team during the early and turbulent years of the Internet.
After receiving his PhD in Computer Information Systems, he was invited to join the faculty of Texas A&M University where he taught graduate courses in Network Design and Computer Security. He is credited with designing and delivering the very early Internet-based courses (back in 1994) at Texas A&M University. His research focus was on early Internet commerce implementations, their economics and security. In 1997 he became the founder and Director of the Advanced Technology Lab. The following year he accepted the position of CTO and was instrumental in bringing the right technologies to the meet the curriculum and research requirements. He accomplished this by working closely with leading technology vendors. In 2000 he was invited to join Ernst and Young initially in Chicago. In 2005 he was hand-picked to help a major global financial institution in Zurich where he spent 3 years overseeing their IT transformation. He moved to Kuwait to assist several Banks and other Islamic Financial institutions
Dr.Shabana also holds an MBA from the American University in Cairo as well as the CISSP- Certified Information Systems Security Professional, CISA- Certified Information Systems Audit and CISM – Certified Information Security Manager designations. He is also certified in the National Security Agency’s Information Security Assessment Methodology. He has published numerous papers on e-business and security and is a frequent speaker at various national and international Information Technology conferences. He regularly teaches Crisis Management and Incident Response Course at the American University in Cairo where he also serves as an Advisor to the President.
